Days Calculator

Count days between dates or add and subtract days from a date

What the Days Calculator Does

How many days are left until your deadline? How long has it been since an invoice was issued? What date falls 45 days after a contract starts? The Days Calculator answers questions like these in seconds. Enter two dates to find the number of days between them, or start from one date and add or subtract a number of days to find the result. It does the calendar arithmetic that is easy to get wrong in your head, including months of different lengths and leap years.

Everyday Uses for a Days Calculator

  • Project planning. Work out how much time remains before a launch, delivery or milestone.
  • Invoices and payments. Find a due date for payment terms such as "net 30" or measure how overdue an invoice is.
  • Contracts and notices. Calculate notice periods, trial lengths, warranty windows and return deadlines.
  • Travel. Count the days until a trip or the length of a stay.
  • Personal milestones. Count down to a wedding, exam, birthday or holiday, or look back on how many days since an event.
  • Habit tracking and fitness. Measure a streak or the length of a 30, 60 or 90 day challenge.

How to Use the Days Calculator

  1. Pick the type of calculation: the difference between two dates, or adding or subtracting days from a date.
  2. Enter your start date. If you are measuring a gap, add the end date as well.
  3. For adding or subtracting, type how many days to move forward or back.
  4. Run the calculation.
  5. Read the result and note the resulting date or number of days.

As a quick example, 30 days after 15 October 2026 is 14 November 2026, because October has 31 days and the count carries into the next month.

Inclusive or Exclusive: A Common Source of Confusion

Whether the first or last day counts changes the answer by one, and it matters. Counting the days between 1 January and 31 December 2026 gives 364 if you count the gap between the dates, but 365 if you include both the first and the last day. Neither is wrong, but you must know which your situation requires. Legal documents, rental periods and hotel stays often count every day inclusive, while "how long since" measurements usually count the gap. If a deadline is critical, check how the relevant document defines the period, and consider adding a day of margin.

Leap Years and Month Lengths

The calendar is irregular, and that is precisely why a calculator helps. Months have 28 to 31 days, and every four years February gains an extra day, with exceptions for century years that are not divisible by 400. A period that crosses 29 February therefore contains one more day than the same period in a non-leap year. A good calculator accounts for these rules automatically, so you do not need to count on your fingers or remember the rhyme about which months have 30 days.

Calendar Days Versus Working Days

A result in calendar days includes weekends and public holidays. If you need working days, for example to estimate delivery or processing times, you will need to remove weekends and any holidays that apply, because these vary by country and organisation. Use the calendar-day result as your baseline, then adjust for non-working days where it matters. Dates themselves are best written in the unambiguous year-month-day style defined by ISO 8601, which avoids mistakes between day-first and month-first conventions.

Tips for Accurate Results

  • Double-check date formats when copying dates from other documents. 03/04/2026 means different things in different countries.
  • Decide in advance whether the start or end date should be counted.
  • For legal or financial deadlines, confirm the result against the official source.
  • Remember time zones if an event spans regions. A deadline of midnight may fall on different calendar days for different people.

How It Compares With Other Methods

You can subtract dates in a spreadsheet or write a few lines of code, such as using the JavaScript Date object, and both approaches work well when you need to process many dates. For a single question, a dedicated calculator is quicker and less error-prone. The Days Calculator on WebTOOLkt is free and needs no setup, and it belongs to a family of time and date tools, so you can move on to hours, months or age calculations from the same place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the calculator handle leap years?

Yes. Calendar rules, including 29 February, are applied automatically.

Why is my answer one day different from another calculator?

Usually because one counts both the start and end dates and the other counts only the gap between them.

Can I count backwards from a date?

Yes. Subtract days from a date to find a past date, for example the start of a notice period.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
